Gulliver had a difficult time readjusting to life in Europe as he was accustomed to the virtues of the Houyhnhnms. Gulliver hold a cloth with rue or tobacco to his nose so he cannot smell the city, which Gulliver could not stand. The same image appears in the 1839 Krabbe edition.
