A quipu was a stringed Incan device used to record and keep information. He is depicted wearing a hat and carrying a bag around his chest. The astrologers would study the sun, moon and stars to better determine when would be the best time to sow the fields for a good yield. The caption at the bottom of the image reads, “astrologo” [astrologer].
