Don Quixote’s niece (left), the housekeeper (centre), the priest (right), and the barber (kneeling) scrutinise the books in Don Quixote’s library, later deciding to burn them for their responsibility in Don Quixote’s madness. The housekeeper carries a pot of holy water and sprigs of hyssop, and her figure is framed by the doorway. Plate no. 5, signed by J. Vanderbank (illustrator) and G. van der Gucht (engraver).
