Sancho (left) looks back and sees himself about a couple of yards from the bank causing him to quake and cover his eyes and weep bitterly with his hands by his eyes. Don Quixote, clad in armor, places his left hand on Sancho's shoulder, his spear in his right hand and his shield on his back. In the background on the left Quixote's horse and Sancho's donkey watch their owners set off in a boat.
