In his left hand he carries a shield and is clad in full armour with a helmet covering his face. There are three windmills in total and Quixote is charging the one closest to the foreground. In the mid-ground, Sancho Panza can be seen praying alongside his donkey. In the background a horse drawn carriage proceeds down a path.
