The City of Oceanside adopted City Council Policy 100-55 to establish procedures and criteria for naming and dedicating parks and recreation facilities. To qualify, individuals must demonstrate long-term service, community contributions, or substantial financial support for the facility. The policy discourages duplicative names and ensures that names reflect dignity and positive recognition for the community.
The naming process involves submission of an application to the Parks and Recreation Division, review by the Parks and Recreation Commission during a public hearing, and final approval by the City Council. Facilities are typically considered for naming once per year, and approved names are commemorated with plaques installed at the site.
