The City establishes policies for both street naming and the naming of city facilities to ensure that names reflect local history, geography, and community contributions. Street names are reviewed by a Street Naming Committee composed of city officials, including a City Council representative, Police Chief, Development Services Manager, and Public Works Director.
For naming city facilities, recommended names may be based on local heritage, pioneer families, nearby parks, service organizations, geographic features, thematic ideas, or well-known community members. City Commissions may propose naming recommendations upon request of the City Council, and the City Council holds final authority to approve names for all city facilities.
This process ensures that naming decisions are carefully reviewed and aligned with the historical and cultural identity of the community.
