The City of La Quinta’s Facility Naming Policy establishes uniform procedures and eligibility criteria for naming and renaming city facilities, including parks, park amenities, buildings, meeting rooms, fire stations, and recreational facilities. The policy is intended to ensure that facility names honor places, history, persons, and organizations that are undeniably significant to La Quinta and are compatible with community values and interests. Requests may be submitted by full-time La Quinta residents through a formal application process, and qualifying names may reflect geographic features, historical significance, natural community characteristics, or individuals and organizations that have made lasting and substantial contributions to the city. The policy also places restrictions on naming facilities after seated elected or appointed officials, discourages renaming once established, and allows revocation only under limited circumstances. Naming requests are reviewed through a three-step public meeting process involving the Arts and Community Services Commission before final consideration and approval by the City Council.
