The City of Mission Viejo’s municipal code provides a formal procedure for adopting or changing the name of a private street. When the City Council determines that a private street should be named or renamed, a public hearing must be held. Notice of the hearing must be posted in at least three public places along the affected street at least ten days before the hearing date. At the hearing, the City Council considers proposed names and any objections. After the hearing, the Council may adopt or change the street name by official order, and the street is thereafter known by the designated name.
